About

Mhairi Revie

I am a Scottish born visual artist living on Giabal and Jarowair Country (Toowoomba, Australia). My printmaking and ceramics practices primarily centre on reflection and reinforcing/reinterpreting memories of experience and place using sensory aesthetics as a means of ‘mental-mapping’. As an artist with degenerative vision loss, I am particularly interested in exploring how ‘touch’/’tactile’ aesthetics complements visual aesthetics, and whether when combined they work to offer a more inclusive and immersive experience for makers and viewers alike.

Journaling is central to my practice, embodying a daily habit designed for self-reflection, problem solving, and the refining of concepts, processes and adaptive techniques. I use a combination of devices/strategies such as video magnifiers, registration pins/tabs, touch, sound, braille dots, and mental-mapping to enhance accessibly and navigate the making of my work
